Through painting, sculpture and site-specific improvisational music, Catch And Release invites us to do what we’ve really been needing to do for a while: get loose.
Made between 2025-2026, Grant LoParo’s works approach their audience with a fluid, open welcome rather than a directive. The paintings’ vibrant acrylics and the images’ dreamlike inhabitants invite emotional responses, but stake no claim on them. These works are illustrative of an idea: that a person can be the conduit of a transient image–or sound, or dream–and that good things come from observation, rather than cementation.
The circular union of clay, paint and sound brings biomes to mind. Material is made very fluid: more a body of water than a body of work.
It’s the perfect environment to mull over something like this: much has been made of expressing one’s own feelings and ideas, but what about expressing the unowned?
7 Fish Summoned Daily is a collection of seven songs caught fresh on the day of their performance.
The songs will be captured one by one with a new line being cast at intervals of 1 hour between the hours of 1:07 PM to 7:07 PM on September 26th, 2026.
These freshly caught songs will then be performed in a suite at 8:30 pm. After their presentation they will immediately be released. Never to be performed again except possibly in the DNA of one of its children.
All songs performed are ethically sourced by a process of instantaneous melodic fusion that depends entirely on a long-formed relationship with a reliable signal. These melodies are gently coaxed into being and stored in a spacious Aquasonic Storage Machine where each song is given five aquasonic chambers to inhabit. The intention of these rituals is to highlight the possibility of an overlooked sense of agency and sentience that should be assigned to melody itself.

Grant LoParo (b. 1990) is a visual artist and musician based in Los Angeles. Spanning music projects, painting, sculpture, and live performance, LoParo’s practice is informed by an iterative and esoteric approach to world-building, exploring archetypal forms with an intentionally mercurial quality. LoParo received his BFA in painting from the Rhode Island School of Design. He has shown his work in several group exhibitions at Flower Head in El Sereno, CA, and performed the commissioned piece Movie House / Tree / Sun / Star at Coaxial Arts in Los Angeles, CA, as part of Rachel Elizabeth Jones’s residency in 2023. His music practice comprises numerous self-releases under multiple aliases, including Heaven’s Gate Club, Gerry Savaatch & Dar Maclum, and Ram Deb/Deb Ra.
